Citizen 410-10, Spring 2023
The Pursuit of happiness
In this section of Citizen 410, students have been studying the relationship between happiness and citizenship. Our guide through the course has been Aristotle, who considered happiness (eudaimonia, or "flourishing") to be the highest human good, and who defined it as: "An activity of the human soul in accordance with excellence and virtue (arete)." Click on the links below to view students' presentations responding to this question:
Does citizenship involve an obligation to promote happiness in society? If so, how do you, as a citizen, aim to fulfill this obligation? If not, what are the more important goals that society should strive for, and how do you plan to promote these goals as a citizen?
